John D. Scott is the Edwin G. Krebs–Hilma Speights Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle. A native of Scotland, he conducted postdoctoral research on protein kinase inhibitors in the laboratories of Nobel laureates Edwin Krebs and Edmund Fischer at the University of Washington. Scott founded his research program on kinase anchoring at the Vollum Institute at the Oregon Health & Sciences University, Portland.

In 2008, he moved back to the University of Washington, Seattle. Scott was an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute for over 20 years and in 2016 was appointed Chair of the Department of Pharmacology. He is working to forge a top-tier department based on a forward-thinking, diverse, and safe professional culture. These local responsibilities complement his broader service as member of scientific advisory boards in the US, Australia, Asia and Europe. John D. Scott is a fellow of the Royal Society, London, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
