The chemical signaling of cellular processes can be both focal and fast. Ions or other second messengers flood spaces smaller than a micron and then clear in milliseconds. AKAPs not only organize molecules to respond to rapid signals, but also coordinate the ion channels and enzymes that cause these focused chemical flashes.
PRECISION PHARMACOLOGY
Designing pharmacological strategies that influence the spatial and temporal actions of kinases is at the frontier of precision medicine. Using AKAP binding domains as drug delivery platforms, we can target cancer therapeutics to subcellular organelles. The new precision pharmacology approach is called Local-Kinase-Inhibition (LoKI)
